How Many MLB Games Have Been Played?
Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the world. It first began in 1869 and continues to be a fan favorite today. But with all its long-standing history, how many games have now been played in MLB?
Regular Season Games
Regular season games are played from the beginning of April through late September or early October. As of the 2020 season, a total of 16,599 games have been played. This includes games from leagues that have disbanded, most notably the National Association (1871–1875) and the American Association (1882–1891).
Postseason Games
Postseason and World Series games began in 1903, and since then 3, 335 games have been played. These games include the following:
- World Series: 164 games
- Division Series: 135 games
- Championship Series: 179 games
- Wild Card Games: 29 games
Overall Totals
When the regular season games, postseason games, and World Series are all combined, a grand total of 20,034 games have been played in MLB.
