How to Set Up Speed Card Game
Speed is a quick-paced, easy-to-learn card game that is a great choice for family game night, parties, or even just to pass the time. It’s easy to set up and play with a standard deck of cards, so keep reading to learn how!
Gather Your Supplies
You’ll need the following supplies to play a game of Speed:
- A standard 52-card deck
- 2-6 players
- A flat surface to play on
Remove Cards from the Deck
Before you can start playing, you need to remove the jokers and two extra cards from the deck. After those cards have been removed, the deck should consist of only 48 cards.
Shuffle and Deal the Cards
Next, shuffle the deck and deal 8 face-down cards to each player. Once the cards have been dealt, place the remaining cards face-down on the table and leave them there until needed.
Start Playing!
Once the cards have been dealt, the game is ready to play. The goal of the game is to be the first one to get rid of your cards. The player that is left with the most cards after everyone has run out loses.
To begin, each player looks at the 8 cards they have been dealt and selects 4 to keep and 4 to discard. The discard pile is then placed in the center of the table.
The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by playing a card from their hand onto the center pile, and the turn to play passes clockwise around the table. Each player can only play one card at a time, and the card should be the same suit or higher than the card that was just played.
Whoever runs out of cards first is the winner – it’s as easy as that!
Now that you know how to set up and play Speed, get your decks ready and start playing!
