How to Use Steam Points to Buy Games
Step 1: Get Points
Prior to buying a game with Steam points, they must first be accumulated. There are several ways of adding Steam points to an account:
- $10 – $78 Gift Cards: Available from retail stores including from Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.
- Purchase Points: This can be done directly from within Steam on the store page, with a variety of methods of payment accepted.
- Rewards: Complete surveys or offers for points, on sites such as FreeSteamWallet.com
Step 2: Use Points
The points accumulated will show up in the account balance of the “Wallet” option in the store. To use them to purchase a game, select the game, add it to the cart, and proceed to the checkout.
Under the “Payment Method” option select “Steam Wallet” and the points balance of the account will appear. If the cost of the game is less than the amount, this will be used up and the change will remain, if the cost exceeds the points balance then the payment methods available on the account can be used, such as credit cards to pay for the difference.
Step 3: Confirm Purchase
Once both options are selected the game will be purchased and if using points the amount used up will be deducted from the wallet balance in the store. The game will now appear in the games library of the account and can be played immediately.
Using points to purchase a game with Steam is an easy and secure way to get the games you want without having to use credit cards. It is also a great way to try out new games without any risk as the points are already secured and can easily be accumulated prior to purchase.
