The South Carolina Gamecocks and Notre Dame Fighting Irish went head-to-head in a thrilling college football game on October 27th, 2020.
South Carolina Wins the Game
The South Carolina Gamecocks emerged victorious with a final score of 31-27. South Carolina quarterback Collin Hill completed 20 of 34 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. The two touchdowns were the ones that ultimately decided the game as South Carolina found themselves down 27-24 with just over three minutes left in the game. Hill went on to lead the gamecocks to touchdown on a ten play, 74-yard drive, to secure the win.
Notre Dame’s Offense Struggles
Notre Dame’s offense struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game due to a handful of costly turnovers. The Irish committed a total of five turnovers in the game, four of them being fumbles. Notre Dame running back C’Bo Flemister lost two fumbles and Irish quarterback Ian Book tossed an interception as well.
South Carolina’s Victory Highlights
South Carolina’s victory was driven by a few key plays in the fourth quarter:

- Collin Hill’s Completion to Shi Smith– With South Carolina facing a third-and-five from the Notre Dame 37-yard line, Collin Hill connected with Shi Smith for a 18-yard completion to keep the drive alive.

- Kevin Harris’ Two-point Conversion– After South Carolina scored a touchdown on the drive, Kevin Harris converted on a two-point conversion that would become the game-winning points.

- Stanley’s Stop on Fourth-Down– On Notre Dame’s final drive, linebacker Ernest Jones IV sacked Ian Book on third down and Myles Hartsfield followed up with a fourth-down tackle on receiver Joe Wilkins Jr.
The South Carolina Gamecocks were victorious in the end and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will now have to regroup before their next game.
